Justine has a deep desire to help women have the birth experience they want and need. Her efforts as a midwife focus on offering personal care to each woman she serves. Each pregnancy and birth is unique and she strives to treat it as such.
Justine's passion for birth was sparked in a Maternal and Child Nutrition class she took while earning a degree in Nutrition from Cal Poly. Two years after receiving her degree she graduated from National Midwifery Institute. She is recognized by the Medical Board of California as a Licensed Midwife and by the North American Registry of Midwives as a Certified Professional Midwife.
Screening women throughout pregnancy to ensure optimum health and low risk level for out of hospital birth is a key component in the care Justine provides. Proper nutrition--including whole foods and avoiding western American/processed foods--is crucial to sustaining a healthy pregnancy and preparing for a successful birth. Exercise, childbirth education, chiropractic and acupuncture are also important components in maintaining a healthy pregnancy.
Justine has many close friends and family members that have endured unwanted interventions and surgical births. Because of this, and other reasons, she is passionate and committed to help women have a safe and comfortable birth. Birth can be a memorable and amazing part of a woman's life. As a licensed midwife in this community, Justine is honored to be a part of such a personal experience in so many women's lives.
Justine is first and foremost a wife and mother. She and her husband, Jeff, have welcomed three babies into their family. They had wonderful home births in the Five Cities with assistance of Justine's midwife, mentor and friend, Tiffany Dietrich. Justine enjoys horseback riding, playing sports and savoring time with friends and family in this beautiful beach town.
I’m Alia, mother of 3 babies all born at home with midwives. At age 17 I met a midwife and attended her home group for interested birth workers. When she pulled the placenta out of her freezer I was hooked! The process of pregnancy, birth, the deep bonds experienced and witnessed, the women centered support, it all fascinated me and tugged at the depths of my heart. I knew I was meant to be a midwife. Before beginning midwifery school I worked in many hospital and acute care settings practicing allopathic and western medicine at its finest. I decided by age 21 that nursing was not for me, and I enrolled in The National College of Midwifery. I apprenticed for 3 years in my hometown of Redding, CA before relocating to Arroyo Grande, CA and finishing out the rest of my 5 year apprenticeship here. I was honored to have learned from 9 midwives in the coarse of my training. From there I became licensed as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) via the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) and also as a Licensed Midwife (LM) from the California State Medical Board. I take tremendous pride in being called a midwife and feel very called to serve women and families. Thank you for taking the time to read about me! I hope we can connect so I can cater to your personal needs.
